Leading professional wipes brand Sontara® has announced the launch of a groundbreaking sustainable wipes range, utilizing exclusively sustainable raw materials including recycled PET from PCR bottles, plastic-free fibers such as viscose, lyocell and cotton, and natural wood pulp. The portfolio represents the widest of its kind currently available on the market.
Made in Europe at its northern Spain production site, Sontara’s sustainable range includes products with up to 42% less CO2 emissions compared to its standard wipe equivalents1, and up to 70% reduced transport emissions against far eastern imports2, providing customers with sustainability insights based on industry-recognized methods, supply chain security and greater agility.
Performance matched against Sontara’s standard range, the reduced-carbon portfolio has been developed to help customers to reduce their environmental impact without compromising on the high strength, absorbency and extremely low lint for which the brand is known.
Sontara’s sustainable off-the-shelf options are available in a variety of weights, colors and finishes, including four variations of the brand’s leading Sontara EC® engineered cloth wipes and their innovative Sontara® TriFlo multilayer technology, all engineered without added binders, chemicals, or silicones:
- Sontara EC® Green and Sontara EC® Green Natural: made with fully cellulosic biodegradable fibers. EC Green Natural is made with natural wood pulp, offering reduced chemical processing and a natural aesthetic.
- Sontara EC® Recycled and Sontara EC® Recycled Natural: made with rPET, with the Natural version also using natural wood pulp.
- Sontara® TriFlo Green: a 100% cellulosic wipe made with Sontara’s multi-layer technology for greater thickness, higher absorption, and the lowest lint level in the range.
Beyond the core range, customers can create bespoke solutions that combine the raw materials, technology, weight, finish, color and converting format which best suit their application and needs.
Designed for critical cleaning applications across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, cleanroom and pharmaceutical, Sontara’s sustainable wipes portfolio offers strong regulatory assurance.
All products are fully compliant with the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation, helping customers stay ahead of tightening environmental standards. Sustainability credentials include FSC-certified fibers, FCC food contact certification and OK Home Compost certification available for biodegradable products, and GRS-certification available for recycled products.
Lorenzo Vaira, Product Manager for Europe, Chicopee and Sontara, comments:
“Sustainability is a growing focus within the world of critical cleaning, but until now, the availability of high-performance and environmentally friendly products has been limited.
“Sontara’s new portfolio represents a major advance for the cleaning industry, offering unrivalled sustainability with a level of flexibility which has not been offered before. Our customization options mean sustainable solutions can be created for any cleaning application, meeting not only high-performance cleaning standards, but regulatory requirements and sustainability goals too.”
