Toscotec is pleased to announce the successful start-up of the PM1 tissue line at Sofidel Roanne’s mill in France.
This move follows a major rebuild of the tissue machine, a modernization project designed to meet one of the Sofidel's key objectives, energy savings. These efforts support the company’s long-term decarbonization and sustainability goals.
Alessandro Mennucci, Toscotec’s Chief Executive Officer, states: “We are proud to partner with Sofidel again: this project follows the supply of two turnkey plants of 75,000 tons each in 2020 in Oklahoma – USA.”
Davide Mainardi, Sofidel’s Chief Technical Officer, states: “Operations unfolded as intended. The revamping is aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing the plant’s environmental footprint, with an estimated annual reduction of approximately 1,200 tons of CO₂ emissions.”
This comprehensive rebuild features a range of new sections across the tissue machine. Key technological installations in the dry sections include a new TT SYD Steel Yankee Dryer paired with the innovative TT NextPress shoe press. This combination optimizes dewatering to increase post-press dryness and preserve paper bulk, not only enhancing final product quality but also reducing energy consumption.
The dry section’s upgrade also includes new hoods, a steam and condensate system, and an air system – featuring a TT Swing System, which dynamically adjusts settings to run with one or two burners, ensuring maximum efficiency and flexibility based on operating needs.
To complement the project, Toscotec provides a new TT Headbox, suitable for working with the current twin wire configuration. This new component is key to improve softness and outcome of the final product. The reel section is also replaced with a complete hydraulic pope reel TT Reel L which is important to preserve and enhance the product quality.
The machine also includes a new DCS system TT Brain: Toscotec’s advanced control system that optimizes tissue machine performance through automation, diagnostics, and seamless integration with mill operations.
The project’s achievements mark a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two companies, and reinforce Toscotec’s commitment to delivering tailored, high-quality, and reliable solutions for sustainable tissue production.
