Vajda-Papír announced the signing of a purchase agreement to acquire the Hungarian household paper business of Sofidel Hungary Kft., a transaction subject to regulatory approval by the Hungarian Competition Authority.
The financial closing of the deal is expected in the second quarter of 2026, once the necessary approvals have been granted.
This strategic acquisition will enable Vajda-Papír to further strengthen its position in the regional household paper market and significantly expand both its production capacity and product range.
For the first half of 2025, the Vajda-Papír Group reported a net sales increase of 11.8 percent and a pre-tax profit rise of 17 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. The company's consolidated net sales reached 38 billion forints, while EBITDA was around 4.1 billion forints, matching last year’s figures.
Vajda-Papír sold 27,519 tons of finished goods in the first half of 2025, 16 percent more than the previous year, primarily driven by strong growth in export volumes, which increased by 34 percent, and public sales, which rose by 13 percent. Domestic sales saw a slight decline of 1 percent.
Vajda-Papír is a 100% Hungarian family-owned business, with three Hungarian operations and one in Norway, producing 55-60 percent of Hungary’s domestic hygiene paper demand and exporting 60 percent of its production to over 30 countries, including destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Sofidel Hungary, with a plant in Lábatlan, employs 177 people and posted net sales of over 11.86 billion forints at the end of last year. Established in 2016 after acquiring Forest Papír Kft., Sofidel Hungary is part of the Italian-based Sofidel Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of hygiene and household paper products.
