Mondi has introduced re/loop FlowWrap, a new flexible packaging solution for wet wipes that incorporates 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and is designed for mechanical recycling.
The material is a mono-polypropylene (PP) form-fill-and-seal (FFS) solution that replaces non-recyclable laminates in applications such as baby care, cosmetics, and household wipes. It is compatible with PP mechanical recycling under CEFLEX D4ACE guidelines.
Internal testing and customer trials confirmed performance on par with virgin-based alternatives, including reliable sealing, barrier protection, and smooth machinability. The solution is also compatible with existing packaging lines, enabling a straightforward conversion.
External trials conducted on ILA PACK equipment demonstrated strong runnability at high line speeds. The product was showcased live at INDEX 26 in Geneva in May, where Mondi and IMA Ilapak demonstrated the material running on packaging machinery.
The launch is timed to help brands and converters prepare for the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which from 1 January 2030 will require 35% recycled content from post-consumer plastic waste for this packaging category.
"With this launch, we show that wet wipes packaging can move towards circularity without sacrificing performance," said Alessandro D'Agostino, Business Development Manager Home and Personal Care at Mondi Consumer Flexibles. "By combining a material designed for recycling with PCR content and excellent machinability, we help customers transition faster towards sustainable packaging solutions while maintaining operational efficiency."
