Italian tissue manufacturer Industrie Cartarie Tronchetti (ICT) has started up its first tissue paper machine at its new greenfield site in Deeside, Wales, United Kingdom.
In recent months, the site had already begun production activities with converting lines and the new automated warehouse—essential, technologically advanced components supporting efficiency, reliability, and process optimization.
With the start-up of the paper machine, the plant now completes the integration of the production cycle, enabling greater flexibility and integrated management from paper production to converting and through to finished product logistics.
The Deeside project is ICT’s first tissue production and converting unit in the UK, following the establishment of ICT UK in 2018.
In 2021, ICT signed a preliminary contract for a 50 acre site on the Northern Gateway in Deeside to develop a state of the art integrated tissue production and conversion facility, equipped with the latest technology and spanning 700,000 sq ft. The project is supported by the Welsh Government with £5 million in funding, following a £10 million investment in site development, and is the first of its kind in the UK in more than 15 years.
ICT has production facilities in Italy, Poland, Spain and France, with a total production capacity of 770,000 tpy.
Capacity figures for the new tissue machine and converting lines have not been disclosed.
