Eczacıbaşı Group has signed an agreement to sell its tissue subsidiary Sanipak, owner of the Selpak and Solo brands, to Malaysia-based Arch Peninsula Sdn Bhd in a transaction valuing the company at 600 million USD.
Arch Peninsula is a subsidiary of APP Group (Asia Pulp & Paper), the pulp and paper arm of Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Group.
The transfer, which will be completed after approval from regulatory bodies in the relevant countries, including the Competition Authority, will create a significant resource for Eczacıbaşı's dynamic portfolio management and sustainable growth objectives, while strengthening the global market presence of Sanipak's brands.
With this agreement, the Eczacıbaşı Group takes a significant step towards dynamic portfolio management, while also paving the way for global growth for the brands within Sanipak.
Speaking about the signed agreement, Eczacıbaşı Group CEO Burak Sevilengül said, “In the personal hygiene products sector, where we started operating in 1969 under the name İpek Kağıt, we created Türkiye's most beloved and pioneering brands. We transformed our country's hygiene and personal cleaning habits. Today, we believe that Sanipak is stepping into a new era with a strong international player that can best utilize its global growth potential.”
“This step will enable Sanipak brands, which originated in Türkiye, to expand even more strongly into world markets and reach millions of new households. This agreement, which is a result of our active portfolio management approach, will also be an important driving force for our Group to evaluate new investment opportunities.”
“We will continue to contribute to the Turkish economy,” said Sanipak CEO Bülent Kozlu, emphasizing that the agreement will reinforce the company's leading position in Turkey and Morocco, while also giving a significant boost to its journey to becoming a regional player. Kozlu stated, “We believe that AP's global production power and vertical integration capabilities, combined with Sanipak's pioneering brands and operational infrastructure, will create great synergy. As the leading company in our country in the field of tissue paper, we will continue to contribute to the Turkish economy through domestic production, employment, exports, and new investments.”
Nishant Grover, Co-Chair of the Global Consumer Board of the investment group, also stated that they were pleased to include Sanipak, one of the leading tissue paper manufacturers in Turkey and Morocco, in their growing portfolio, and made the following statement: "This acquisition reflects our focus on investing in market-leading brands with strong local positions. As an integrated pulp and paper company, we are strongly positioned to create value with our global scale, operational expertise and supply chain capabilities. We expect this agreement to create significant synergies and contribute to trade and economic growth in both the host and investor countries."
