Delipap’s carbon-neutral baby diapers are manufactured at Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari.
The Finnish hygiene product manufacturer Delipap Oy has made a significant investment in domestic production. The family-owned company is introducing a new, innovative diaper model under the Moomin Baby brand to Finland and the whole of Europe. With this new product, Delipap is making moves into new international markets.
Delipap is the only company in Finland that manufactures disposable baby diapers and menstrual pads.
The domestic family business Delipap has invested nearly ten million euros in the production line of its Tammisaari facility, where Moomin Baby diapers are made. Thanks to the investment, Delipap will begin producing the new Snap Pants diaper, which combines the best features of both pants-style and taped diapers.
The new diaper’s openable and resealable side tabs allow the waist size of the pants diaper to be adjusted for a perfect fit for each child. In addition, the Snap Pants diaper includes several innovative features; for example, ultrasound technology is used in manufacturing to create an extremely gentle, soft elastic waistband.
The new machine line was delivered from Japan—a global leader in technology. The ultrasound-based diaper production line is the first of its kind in Europe.
Domestic manufacturing is exceptional in the hygiene industry, and Delipap has kept its production entirely in Finland.
“Competition against multinational giants is tough. Domestic production is an important value for Finns, but it alone is not enough to influence purchase decisions. The product must offer an excellent user experience. The new diaper has undergone a long product development process. Thousands of Finns participated in the development of the Snap Pants diaper, and based on the feedback we received, we have succeeded in creating something that Europe has not seen before,” says Delipap’s CEO Sanna Karhu.
Delipap’s new production line, imported from Japan, is nearly 100 meters long.
Delipap has manufactured diapers under the Moomin brand since 1991. The carbon-neutral baby diapers are produced in Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari. Delipap employs about 65 people in total, and the number of employees is expected to increase thanks to the new production line.
Planning for the investment began already in 2019, and the new diaper machine arrived in Tammisaari last summer. Installing the machine required expanding the factory, and building and assembling the line has taken months. The production line is nearly 100 meters long and was brought to Finland in parts inside 40 shipping containers from the company’s long-term machinery supplier in Japan.
“The factory line has now been installed and successfully taken into use, meter by meter. Our staff has welcomed the new machine with great enthusiasm, and our partners are positively expectant about our new product. We are currently conducting the final product tests and fine-tuning the details. The line produces hundreds of diapers per minute,” Karhu says.
Delipap has operated in Finland and international markets for 45 years since the company was founded. Nordic origin is a valuable asset internationally, and the innovative diaper design again opens doors to new markets. Currently, about one quarter of the company’s turnover comes from exports. With the investment, exports will be expanded to the UK, Asia, and the Pacific region. The domestic market remains important to Delipap, and the investment is expected to bring clear growth opportunities in Finland.
Delipap is a Finnish family business founded in 1979. Its story began with Raimo Nuortie’s innovation to develop a better, more skin-friendly diaper for his own child. The company has remained family-owned, and its third CEO, Sanna Karhu, is Raimo’s daughter. Innovative product development and the desire to make everyday family life easier by creating pioneering products continue from one generation to the next.
Responsibility is at the core of Delipap's operations, and keeping production in Finland represents a significant investment in a more sustainable future. The company uses renewable hydropower and solar energy in all its operations, and products are manufactured in accordance with strict quality criteria defined and monitored by third parties.
“We believe it is our job as a company to make the right choices on behalf of the consumer. We want to make family life easier by offering innovative products that burden the environment as little as possible,” says Karhu.
The new, diaper-changing Moomin Baby Snap Pants diaper will be available in grocery stores beginning in early 2026.
