Japan’s Daio Paper Corporation has officially exited the Turkish market, transferring all its local brands, including the well-known Komili, to Turkish conglomerate Evyap Holding. This strategic move ends Daio’s five-year foray into Türkiye, a period marked by economic turbulence and fierce competition.
Daio entered Türkiye in 2020 through the acquisition of Özen Kişisel Bakım Ürünleri Üretim A.Ş., the producer of Komili and other hygiene brands. Özen was owned by Yıldız Holding A.Ş., a major food and consumer goods conglomerate managed by the Ülker family. The deal was valued at $26.4 million. Following the acquisition, Daio quickly established a local presence with products such as baby diapers, sanitary pads, and wet wipes, operating under its subsidiary, Elleair International Turkey Kişisel Bakım Ürünleri Üretim A.Ş.
Despite its initial ambitions, Daio found it increasingly difficult to sustain operations amid rising costs and a highly competitive environment. These financial headwinds were cited as the primary reason for the company’s early withdrawal.
In a deal finalized in June 2025, Daio transferred all shares of Elleair International Turkey to Evyap Holding. The transaction was structured so that 70% of the shares went to Evyap Hijyenik Ürünler Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and 30% to Evyap Sabun Yağ Gliserin Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., both subsidiaries of Evyap. The sale included all of Daio’s Turkish operations and brands, with Komili as the flagship asset.
Evyap—already a powerhouse in the Turkish hygiene and personal care sector with brands such as Arko, Duru, and Evy Baby—is expected to further consolidate its market position through this acquisition as it integrates Komili and other brands into its portfolio.
Daio, meanwhile, has stated that the transaction will have no material impact on its consolidated financial results, signaling a clean break as it refocuses on other international markets.
